Welcome to our Churches - Holy Trinity, Cleeve and  St Barnabas, Claverham.

who work very closely together.  We are welcoming and seek to reach out to the local community. Church services are shared between the two churches, this enables those of the more traditional faith to attend Holy Communion on the Sundays that Cleeve has more alternative services. Regular worshippers for Holy Trinity and St Barnabas are 34 as of 2023 and on average we have around 18-20 at our services. The church wardens at Cleeve oversee services at St Barnabas amply supported by the Claverham congregation.

Holy Trinity has a regular midweek lay led Healing and Wholeness service at 9.30 every Thursday.  

We are open to new ideas, and fully behind the Café Celebration, a café style non- Eucharistic service started in the school but now held in the village hall on the 4th Sunday of the month to offer both a different style of worship and as an outreach initiative.
 

Friendship lunches are held every three months for those, from both villages, who are elderly or who are living on their own. Our members look forward to it and always receive a delicious, hot lunch. Every Thursday the Church room is open to both Cleeve and Claverham residents as the 'Warm room' in Winter with soup and rolls and the 'Welcome room' in Summer with tea and Cake. New visitors are very welcome to the Warm or Welcome room and our numbers are gradually increasing.

Holy Trinity are proud to call ourselves an Eco-congregation, our bronze award was awarded in 2021. We believe that this beautiful world is God's great gift to be cherished and nurtured. We also believe that loving our neighbour means living in such a way that helps and not harms the environment.

Pastoral care in the church community is excellent with church members supporting both other people in the churches and in Cleeve and Claverham villages. Holy Trinity also has an experienced Lay Pastoral Assistant. We have really benefited from our growing links with Yatton Moor churches, with the LPAs and the safeguarding teams working closely together which leads to excellent communication when there are issues or people need help.  We have worked hard as a group to provide group events, the Songs of Praise at Kingston Seymour in the summer was extremely well attended and the group lunch held in a marquee in a member of the congregation’s garden in Cleeve in June was a huge success with a wonderful attendance from everyone in the group.  We are keen to continue these events in 2025.  The church wardens from both parishes meet monthly to work out a common service rota ensuring that each church is well supported with their services and to plan group events.  As a group during the interregnum we have been encouraging lay led services and finding people have hidden talents!

We have a strong link with Court de Wyck Church School in Claverham with the school coming up to the Church for their annual carol service and the PCC funding a guided trip to Wells Cathedral for the year 6 Children. Members of our congregation go into the school to help with activities for example the 'Easter in a box 'and 'Christmas in a box' mornings.  During the interregnum a retired priest has been visiting the school regularly.

Holy Trinity is fortunate to have a newly refurbished church room which can be live linked to the church. This, alongside being used for many church events for both villages, is rented out for small group activities and is invaluable in North Somerset Arts week when artists use the Church facilities and the church volunteers serve refreshments. Holy Trinity is intertwined with the Cleeve community with parishioners involved in many of the village activities. The large village hall which is used for various village and church events is a real asset to Cleeve.

St Barnabas is a flexible space with moveable chairs rather than pews and is easily accessible. It is used for meetings and since 2017 it has been used by North Somerset Arts during their biennial county-wide arts week. 

We are especially fortunate in that so many of the members of the congregation contribute to helping to keep the church family going.  From cleaning the churches, flowers, helping with events to raise funds both for the churches and charities, to the Monday Gang who do repairs and maintenance for both churches.

*On the fourth Sunday we have an informal Cafe Church which is held at Cleeve Village Hall and is open to all who like interesting conversation as well as hot drinks and cakes.
